New Families: Stories about Online Sperm Donation

The comics found in this collection are drawn from our research interviews with recipients, donors, co-parents and partners and present “composite narratives” crafted from this data.  The project team has worked together to combine stories, details and interview quotations from multiple research participants to create fictional narratives and characters that nonetheless represent real people’s experiences in online sperm donation. This serves to retain a first-person perspective across the comics whilst respecting the privacy of our participants.

 

The collection contains eight stories: three recipient journeys, two donor stories, two co-parenting journeys, and one donor's partner's story. These stories have been designed to reflect the diversity of experiences that we have gathered in the Online Sperm Donation Project. Some stories end in conception, others do not. Some are marked by challenges or misunderstandings, others by deepening connections and shared purpose.
